Question about Denon recievers

    It's a little pre-mature to say my absolute plan is to go with M&K Kseries speakers for our surround. But so far thats the plan in mind. Budget is constrained a lot but I want to stretch it out and get the best I can for what we can afford.

    My question is, can a Denon 1082 or 2803 be used as a pre-amp? Also, the only difference I can see between the 1082 and 2803 is that the 1082 (I think 3802 rebadged?) has more power than the 2803 but doesnt have Surround EX (like I know what that does..hehe).

    Is there a difference in sound quality? Would I be better off getting the 2803 because of the Surround EX? Would it be better as a pre-amp?

    The reciever will need to power the MK's (so far thats what I planned, but I havnt fully investigated other brands yet, so nothings in stone!) for atleast a year, until we can afford a seperate amp.

    Yes, Denon 1082 or 2803 can be used as a pre-amp
    As for the difference between the 1082 and 2803, the 1082 is more powerful but has less digital sound input ports and yes, 1082 is Denon 3802 re-badged. Also, 1082 is about $100 cheaper than 2083 ($799)

    There are no difference in sound quality (at least I couldn't hear it), and no difference in construction. The 2803 is just a newer model with couple of improvements from the previous model (2802). I have a 1082 and am very happy with it.
