Samsung’s 85-inch Q800 8K QLED TV is now available for pre-order and shipping to select retailers nationwide for $14,999.99. Shipping will kick off from Samsung.com on Sunday, October 28 2018. Driven by Samsung’s 8K Quantum Processor, the new Q900 utilizes AI upscaling to deliver 8K resolution, regardless of original resolution while delivering ‘intense color and brightness’ for the most lifelike and immersive viewing experience. The new Q900 also features the 2018 QLED Series’ new design aesthetic, smart capabilities and connectivity.
The company says that the Q900 will deliver superior images on all source materials from SD to 4K with its 8K AI upscaling feature, which promises to increase perceived image detail. Furthermore, being a FALD-LCD TV, there is less chance of the dreaded image retention or burn-in. The Q900 also includes HDR10+ playback and 4,000 nits of peak brightness. Similar to Samsung’s other QLED models, the unit uses a Direct Full Array Elite local dimming feature for improved contrast.
“At Samsung, we’ve worked tirelessly over the years to move the industry forward when it comes to premium picture quality, and the introduction of our QLED 8K with 8K AI Upscaling is an integral component as we look to the future of displays,” said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re thrilled to introduce the Q900R to consumers and are confident that they will experience nothing short of brilliance in color, clarity and sound on our new 8K-capable models.”
There’s a fair chance not many of our members will be rushing out to get one of these 85-inch stunners just yet, but this announcement will no doubt open the floodgates for further 8K launches. Smaller screens are already slated for non-US regions, so watch this space.
